-Very toasty.

-Subtler, more delicate flavor than the others
-Agree, very subtle.

4) Louis Roederer, Reims, Brut, $75 for 1.5 Liter

-Nutty, toasty flavors, my favorite.

5) Roederer Estate, Anderson Valley, $50 for 1.5 Liter

-Light and floral. Good match with the pear dipped in fondue.

-Very dry.

-Raspberry.
-Very soft, smooth, nice red fruit.

-Very bright.
-Spicy; lots of pepper.

4) Doña Paula, Los Cardos, 2005, Mendoza

-The first of six wine in this group with some flavor.

-A little watery.
-Tastes light.
-Later...peppery, more robust that the earlier comments would indicate.
-Light and watery.

-Rich, but a little hot.

7) Alamos, 2005, Mendoza

8) Achaval Ferrer, 2004, Mendoza

-Nice and balanced.

-A little sour, but 2nd favorite. Good nose and flavor.

-Lovely, earthier bouquet.
-Good balance of fruit and tannin.
-Best of the Cahors.

12) Melipal, 2004, Mendoza

-I like this, smooth, best so far.
-Complex, nicely opened up. My favorite.

13) Catena, 2003, Mendoza

-Earthy, Pepper, really good.
-Smooth, good compared to others.
-Pepper, very full, bold.

14) Luca

-Very dry, smooth, wood and fruit, nice clean finish.

1) Chatter Creek, 2002, Blend 105, Columbia Valley

-Good fruit, good balance.
-Sort of OK. Fruit, long after taste.
-Nice, medium taste. Not too tart or sweet.
-Nice label; good art.

2) Mark Ryan, The Dissident, 2004, Columbia Valley, $24

-Floral nose, black cherry flavors, great finish.
-Dry, but good.
-Fruity.
-I love it.
-Well rounded.

3) Vine Heart, Sebastian's, 2002, Yakima Valley

-Candy cough drop flavor.
-On second taste, the candy is gone only cough drop left.
-Sweet - it's after dinner.
-Eucalyptus.

4) Teft Cellars, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2002, Yakima Valley, 13%

-Great tannins.
-Nice leathery nose. Some real pucker.
-Sweet when first opened, but turns to a nice pleasure.
-Dry.
-Weably.

5) Stevens 424, 2003, Columbia Valley, (55% Cab, 25% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc)

-Let it breathe, then enjoy, not heavy but has a good flavor.
-Yes.
-Very good.
-May be the best.

6) Glen Fiona, Syrah, 2001, Walla Walla Valley

-Dry, Dry, Dry.
-Yes, nicely made wine.
-Good syrah.

7) Olympic Cellars, Go Girl Red

-Needs to breathe, young, screw cap but is OK...maybe it's the name.
-Best label.
-Not the worst wine even with the screw top.

8) Spring Valley Vineyard, 2003, Walla Walla Valley

-Don't be turned off (or on) by the guy on the label. This is smooth, not too tart, not too sweet, the only word for me is luscious, and I am not talking about the label.
-My favorite. (Marta)

9) Quilceda Creek, 2001, Columbia Valley

-What's not to like.
-Got a ways to go.
-Tastes like velvet.
-Money is not spent on the label.

-Nice, one of top 3.

-Light, but OK.

5.) Moery-Saint-Denis, 2002, Dufouleur Pere & Fils, $36

-Very earthy for pinot; mostly smell, but some taste.
-Earthy is right.
-Not the value I would have expected.

6.) Failla, 2004, Russian River Valley, Keefer Ranch

-Great finish for a young pinot.

7.) Wild Horse, 2004, Central Coast

-Wonderful on the nose; nice body with good tones.
-Good, in top 3.

8.) Furis, 2003, Rogue Valley

9.) Mirasou, 2004, California

-Dreck; bad artificial cherry cough drops.

10.) Willakenzie Estate, 1997, Willamette Valley, Aliette

-Good, one of top 3 and has held up well.
-A mature taste; great nose.

1) Quinta das Maias, Tinto, 2001 (Blend), $10

-Grass and tobacco leaf smell.
-tasted younger than it is. Somewhat lightweight.
-One odd smell.
-Gravelly smell.

2) Quinta dos Roques, Tinto, 2002 (Blend), $10

-A little pepper.
-Agreed.
-Flavor is all up front, not much finish.
-There's liquid in my glass. Where's the wine?

3) Quinta dos Roques, Alfrocheiro Preto, 1999 (Single Varietal), $16

-A lot of sediment.
-Hmm...figgy aroma. Nice.
-Opened up over time.

4) Quinta das Maias, Jaen, 1999 (Single Varietal), $20

-Vanilla, smooth, nice.
-A favorite for tonight.
-Terrific wine.

5) Quinta dos Roques, Touriga Nacional, 2000 (Single Varietal), $22

-Good nose, floral, good finish.
-Smooth, soft and full-slight tannin. Favorite.
-Nice balance of fruit and tannin.

6) Quinta dos Roques, Reserva, 2000 (High end Blend), $22

-Cherry flavors.
-Smooth and likable.
-Very nice.

7) Quinta dos Roques, Garrafeira, 2000 (High end Blend), $35

-Good, but not as good as #6.
-Lots of flavors. Getting cherry and spices with a good finish.

-Plum
